“We're all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding
it, that's all.”
A Classic Returns
Only one film has managed to perfectly capture the
angst-ridden, awkward stages of high school and that film is The Breakfast
Club. This year the film celebrates its 30th anniversary and Aksarben
Cinema will be screening the classic comedy in honor of the special
anniversary.
In anticipation of the film’s re-release we thought
it would also be fun to look back down memory lane and dig out some trivia
treasure from the teen comedy classic.
Trivia Treasure
1. Judd Nelson was nearly fired
because of his negative attitude toward Molly Ringwald off camera. It was Paul Gleason who convinced director
John Hughes not to. Gleason’s reason? He thought that Nelson was a great actor
and was simply trying to stay in character at all times.
2. The
scene in the library where the characters all bare their souls was improvised.
John Hughes directed them to ad-lib their lines. Now we’re left with one of the
most honest, emotional scenes in cinematic history.
3. Molly Ringwald was originally asked
to play Allison but wanted to play Claire, she eventually convinced John Hughes
and the studio and was given the part.
4. The
movie was ranked #1 for Entertaiment
Weekly's 50 Best High School Movies (2006).
5. It
was originally suggested that there would be several sequels to The Breakfast Club, occurring every ten
years, in which The Breakfast Club would get back together. Can you
imagine a 1995, 2005, and 2015 The Breakfast Club?
Detail on the Screening
The film will be screened on both March 26 &
March 31 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available online or at the box office. Make sure you get
them sooner rather than later, because we don’t want you to miss out on this
opportunity to revisit the fated detention room where an unlikely group befriended
one another.
